When does it meet (dates and times)? This committee meets on an ad hoc basis depending on the projects needed.

What is the committee's purpose? To help beautify a couple small areas on the Hingham High School campus grounds.

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? As many as wish to help!

When does it meet (dates and times)? The two co-chairs meet monthly during the school year to discuss upcoming events for the teachers, staff and school at HHS. Typical events for which volunteers are asked to provide treats are:

• September – Stock the Pantry for teachers/staff
• October – Custodial Appreciation Day and Bread for teachers/staff
• November – Pies for teachers/staff
• December – Special Educator Appreciation Day, Acts of Kindness, Holiday Raffle
• January -- Stock the Pantry for teachers/staff
• February – Counselor Appreciation Day
• March – Soup & Salad Day
• April – Paraeducator Appreciation Day, Bus Driver Appreciation Day, Administrative Professional Appreciation Day
• May – Lunch Hero Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, School Nurse Day
• June – Acts of Kindness, Graduation Morning, End of School Luncheon

Where does it meet? At the high school, on the phone, or a member’s house.

What is the committee's purpose? The main purpose of the committee is to show appreciation to the teachers and staff by providing treats, snacks, meals or other items on a monthly basis. 

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? 2 co-chairs and a lot of committee members

When does it meet (dates and times)?  Varies by class; generally 4-6 times a year

Where does it meet? At the high school, on the phone, or at a member’s house.

What is the committee's purpose? Assist class officers and class advisors with class fundraising activities; assist with Senior Night (memory wall, decorating, clean up); work with students to plan and decorate homecoming and prom.

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? Minimum 2-3 per class (more is better)

When does it meet (dates and times)? The Mini-Grant Committee meets only once or perhaps twice, usually during October when it is time to vote on the grant applications. The committee chair meets with Principal John Buckey when all applications have been submitted and then disburses the applications to the committee for their review. The committee then meets to vote on which applications to fund, either fully or partially. 

Where does it meet? The location varies. Sometimes meetings have been held at the Hingham Public Library, the high school, or a private home. 

What is the committee's purpose? The Mini-Grant Committee is responsible for disbursing a budgeted amount of funds for projects which support and enhance the curriculum at the high school and which may not be funded under the regular school budget. Such funding can provide for programs, field trips, speakers, equipment, demonstrations, and enrichment activities. Faculty and staff are invited to apply by submitting an application early in the year.  

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? The committee works best with anywhere from 4 to 8 members. 

What is the purpose? The Red Carpet Committee is responsible for the set up and clean up at the Harbor for Senior Prom. The Prom is always the Thursday before graduation. Set up generally starts around 1:30/2:00 pm. Clean up is after the prom goers have left at approximately 6:00 pm. The Red Carpet Chair recruits other parents to help with set up/clean up.

What are the responsibilities of the Chair? 

• Recruit parents to help on the Committee
• Minimum of six (6) people
• Alone or with the committee decide on the theme of the decorations for the day
• Meet with the Trustees of the Bathing Beach and Hingham Police to review parking and traffic plans
• Obtain permits to use Bathing Beach and Bandstand and Boat Ramp Parking Lot
• Coordinate with DPW to mow lawn, unlock chain and clean goose dropping from the walkway
• Contact George Loring for photo pricing
• Create email communication for HS Principal to distribute to Senior Parents with instructions for parking and George Loring photo information
• Send communication to HHS PTO Weekly Bulletin editor for posting

What are the responsibilities of the committee members?

• Decide on the theme of the decorations for the day
• Help with making any decorations (couple of hours)
• Set up (approximately 1 ½ hours)
• Clean up (approximately 1 ½ hours)

When does it meet (dates and times)? Typically there are no meetings. It is easily coordinated by emails. 

When does it meet (dates and times)? The School Picture Committee acts as Liaison with the school picture company. There is no set meeting for this committee. One meeting over the summer would be adequate and may not even be necessary if all details are sorted out via emails. 

Where does it meet? Anywhere that is convenient for the committee members.

What is the committee's purpose? The committee provides volunteers the day of school pictures in late August to help direct students and to sell the HHS agenda books. It also provides volunteers at the end of a school day in early October for picture re-takes. Lastly, it staffs a table in the cafeteria for two/three days during lunch (11:30 am to 12:30 pm) to hand out the pictures to the students.

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? A minimum of three, up to six.

When does it meet (dates and times)? The Senior Night Committee meets in the evening on a monthly and bi-monthly basis during the school year.

Where does it meet? In the cafeteria 

What is the committee's purpose? The Senior Night Committee plans and implements Senior Night on the night of graduation for the graduating seniors.

Senior Night is a parent, community, and PTO sponsored event for all graduating seniors. Held at the high school on the night of graduation it provides a venue for graduating seniors to safely celebrate one of the most exciting and defining times of their lives with their friends. Refreshments, games, prizes, entertainment and activities are all part of the fun! This event is entirely self-funded from ticket sales, business and individual donors throughout the community, and auctions.  

The gym is filled with inflatables, video dance competitions, and games. The word refreshments does not do it justice as establishments around town donate everything including pizza, burgers, ice cream, chicken fingers, and salads which provide the kids nourishment through the evening. The event is generally attended by 90% of the graduation class. There is always a theme to the party that is kept secret from the kids so it is surprise when they arrive. This year’s theme is ??????. Sorry you will have to wait until graduation! The fun doesn't end with the kids but begins with the parents. School parents are instrumental in the success of the event.  

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? Each year over 100 parent volunteers are deeply involved in activities such as decorating, chaperoning the event, running the casino, and cleaning up.  

When does it meet (dates and times)?  No meetings. All work is done via email and online.

What is the committee's purpose? The Instagram account for HHS PTO is fairly new. We'd love to grow our followers through regular posting of catchy and informative posts. To create posts, you'll use Canva - a wonderfully simple software that will make you look like a graphic design genius!

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? 1-3

When does it meet (dates and times)?  The committee will likely meet just once or twice before April 17 to discuss logistics and expectations for the day.

Where does it meet? to be decided

What is the committee's purpose? The committee members will chaperone groups of HHS Seniors on Harbormen Helping Hingham Day on April 17 when they visit the other HPS schools for the day and undertake a hands-on volunteer project. The Seniors will mainly manage the projects on their own but an adult is needed in case unexpected issues arise.

When does it meet?  No formal meetings; all work is done via email and online.

Where does it meet? N/A

What is the committee's purpose? Serve as Hingham High School liaison to Hingham Public School's METCO program.

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? 1-2

When does it meet (dates and times)?  The third Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m. while school is in session, unless otherwise noted.

Where does it meet? High School Library 

What is the committee's purpose? Along with the principal, the School Council is charged with helping to identify and adopt annual educational goals, reviewing the annual high school budget, formulating a school improvement plan and discussing educational needs of HHS students. It is a great way to get involved at the high school and stay up to date and connected with HHS activities!   School Council Parent members (4) are voted in by HHS PTO members and have alternating two year terms.

Approximately how many volunteers are needed? Establishment of the Hingham High School Council is based on a Massachusetts General Law mandate that all public schools have a school council comprised of the principal, students, parents, and teachers. 

When does it meet (dates and times)?  The second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.

Where does it meet? The Hingham Public Library

What is the committee's purpose? Since 1986, Massachusetts special education law (Chapter 71B of the Mass. General Laws) requires all public school districts to maintain a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). The SEPAC is comprised of parents and guardians of children who receive special education services from Hingham Public Schools (HPS). All parents/guardians of children receiving special education services through HPS are eligible voting members of the Hingham SEPAC.
